Over 14 years ago (only just, as the interview aired 4th February 2002), Britney, Jaime Lynne and Lynne Spears were interviewed by the Queen of chat shows, ‘Oprah’ and the result was one of the most personal interviews of all time.
Just days before the release of her début movie ‘Crossroads’, Britney chats Justin, shopping, her on stage persona and much much more. However the most endearing part of this interview, which is also what makes it so special, is hearing Lynne’s perspective on her superstar daughter and seeing a super cute Jaime Lynne praise her older sister and belt out some of her most famous tracks.
If this is the first time you are seeing this interview, brace yourself, your heart will literally melt.
Happy 14th Birthday to the ‘I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman’ single! Let’s celebrate with some interesting facts about the video.
When Brit was interviewed by seventeen magazine, she explained how she used to get a lot of fan mail from girls who were in that awkward in-between stage of adolescence. She wanted to sing a song that spoke of the angst and heartache of puberty. Britney joked that she called the song ‘Girman’ which is the in-between stage of girl and woman.
Brit singer/songwriter Dido penned this track with the help of Max Martin and Rami. Dido who had a massive success with her song ‘Thank you’ – was known for her very personal and emotional approach to song writing. Britney had more introspective songs on her album, which suited Dido perfectly. Although Britney wrote 5 songs on her ‘Britney’ album, at the time, she claimed, that even though the song was written specifically for the character of Lucy in ‘Crossroads’, the song was one of the most personal tracks off ‘Britney’ to her. It just reflected who she was at that time of her life.
The song was streamed over 2 million times in 24 hours of release on AOL’s music channel.
There are 3 versions of the video, two showing clips from the ‘Crossroads’ movie and the other without. ‘I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman’ was released as the second single in the US and the third single in Europe. The song did a swap with Overprotected, which received a remix treatment for the US release, however Europe received the original version of both tracks.
Britney declined a safety wire for scenes too close to the edge of the clip. Her management team were really not keen on the idea as it was not safe. Britney was completely up for the challenge and would not take no for an answer, she did not want it destroying the look of the video.
‘’The wind started picking up a lot and almost dropped me over,’’ claimed Spears, ‘’And I was like,’Okay, gotta go!’’ Wayne Isham loved the fact that the video was completely natural and that no green screen was involved. ‘’She went out there and without a safety cable, just stood there with those cowboy boots on,’’ he said, ‘’She was standing on the edge in her cowboy boots, looking hot. We’d be right on the edge and she had not a blink of fear.’’
It was claimed that the video was filmed almost a year before it was actually released. To put this into perspective, the video would be filmed before the release of ‘I’m A Slave 4 U’. This was later proven as very likely as the below photo shoot from the music video was released as promo for before the album’s release… ‘Smash Hits’ magazine released a poster of the denim jacket scenes in the car months before the debut.
The music video won the award for ‘International Music Video Of The Year: Short Form’ on the 2003 Japan Gold Disc Awards.
Let’s have a look at the video comparisons, there are quite a few major differences:
And here are some deleted scenes:
Here is the video in all it’s glory as it appears on Britney’s official VEVO channel.
It would be a shame not to take a look back at one of our favourite performances of the track (and believe us, there are many.. Remember Oprah and Rosie O’Donell). Here is Britney belting out the track on ‘MTV’s: Total Britney’ – a full show dedicated to the queen herself.
Ok can we just say how ADORABLE this picture is?!?
Check out Bryce’s meet and greet story with Britney:
I’d like to start my meet and greet experience by thanking some amazing people for helping me prepare for the opening night of piece of me revamp, those people are my amazing friends and Britney family, Brittney, Rachel, Lauren, Bree, and of course Anthony!
Leading up to the the show I was extremely excited yet nervous, didn’t eat much, and couldn’t stop thinking about what I would say or do when I get there. At noon I went and checked in and got my wrist band and tickets for my best friend Alex and I, then returned to axis theatre around 7:00 to meet for our backstage tour. Soon after Fe’s cute little southern self came strutting to us with her match leopard shirt and vans. She was soooo cute. And sooo sweet. I stuck by Fe most of the night because I was by myself so I was even more nervous. First we walked down the stage where Britney performs, seeing what she seems every night is so magical and cool to experience. After we walked through the curtains and headed straight up to Britney’s dressing room where they were working on new costumes for the show. Fe told us all about her favorite costumes from the show and past shows and showed us sneak peaks of what was to come (almost accidentally reveling the new revamped show details to us). After that we filed out back down to the stage where fe explained to us how the show goes on along with really cool facts about the show. Soon after that we all filed out back into the axis where the m&g group was to meet up. That’s when Fe and I talked for a while before we walked back outside to like up for the m&g. Outside I met 2 girls(Kristen & Heather) and a guy who were all in the same boat as me (riding solo) so of course we all made friends and they honestly calmed my nerves so much and were so sweet. We all talked/took pics with the adorable Fe for so long we had no choice but to go last in the group (oops). As the line got shorter and shorter I grew more nervous, Heather, Kristen, and I stuck together until it is was time for Heather to meet Brit. The security guard signaled me up and I could see the shadow of Britney and it stopped me in my tracks for a second. Security then signaled me again and told me to stop while Heather was talking to Brit, at this point I could hear Brit sweet southern voice, and I looked back at Kristen and two guys who were also apart of our meet and greet, i mouthed the words “oh sh*t” to them.. Lol. Security signaled me that it was my time to meet Britney, I walked around the corner of the back drop and there she Was, smiling so big and bright at me (which made me feel so Comfortable). I walked up to her and Said “hi Britney you look so pretty!” And she said “aww thanks sweety, you’re so cute! What’s your name?” I told her my name and I don’t remember much of what I was said between Britney and but I know the entire time she was all smiles and looking right into my eyes. I asked her if we could hold hands in our picture and she said “sure!” She then locked her fingers with mine, I guess Britney could feel me shaking so to give me comfort she squeezed my hand which honestly made the moment so special. I then told her “thank you so much, I can’t wait to see the new show!!” Brit replied, “you’re welcome sweety, I’ll see you out there!! **THEN HUGGED ME!!!!** honestly that was the best experience of my life and she was so sweet and so beautiful I still don’t feel like it happened! I’m so blessed to have had this experience and I can’t wait to see the show again in April! Thank you so much Anthony for letting me tell my (long) m&g experience!
No, this is not another post about how Britney Spears is “back”, simply because she never left to begin with. When press use the term, an artist is ‘back’, they use it loosely, for example, back with a new single, a new performance or a new album. To be honest, we feel the word is quite misleading. Yes, Britney had a few weeks off from her Vegas residency and yes the show has been revisited and has changed considerably, so if we have to use the mainstream word – then yes, ‘Britney is back’ and this round, she is bringing the house down at the same time.
Now, although B’s performance skills are reminiscent to her ‘In The Zone’ days and we are in absolute awe, it is vital that we remember that Britney has many defining moments and every single one is as important as the last.
To put it simply Britney is an icon for a reason. Let’s take a look back and remind ourselves why Brit is one of the most important artists of all time!
Her million dollar looks and her unmistakable fashion statements:
Her performances are second to none:
Her enviable talent:
Her parenting skills – the way she can balance a personal life, whilst being a world icon is fascinating:
Her list of awards – the second most awarded female in history – too many to carry:
Her awe-inspiring sex appeal:
But above all, her incredible strength:
Britney has managed to overcome struggles that most sadly do not overcome. It is impossible to ignore how inspirational Britney truly is. Whilst some artists rant about being the best, Britney is not boastful or proud or self-righteous, even though she has the right to be. It is the reason why she is the best, the reason why she is so relatable and the reason why we are proud to stan for the Queen of Pop.
These new Vegas shows are just the start of what is to come! We are getting ready for B9! Are you? Just remember when our fellow sites say B is back, they mean, it is the end of one era and the start of another! She is just simply back to slay your faves again, like she did yesterday…
