Celebrating 16 years of, ‘Oops!… I Did It Again,’ with interesting facts!

Today we celebrate the 16th birthday of the iconic, ‘Oops!… I did it again.’

The video was considered Britney’s first approach to a ‘racier’ image by critics. During this time, it was claimed that Britney was a virgin and critics used this video to question the authenticity of the claim.

The video was filmed by Nigel Dick who had worked with Britney on numerous videos at this point, with ‘…Baby One More Time’ being one of them. The video was shot between the 17th and 18th of March.

The CD single is the one with the most remix versions and most are extremely rare.

During the production, one of the cameras fell and hit Britney on the head. Britney received four stitches however continued to film the remainder of the video with only 4 hours rest.

Britney came up with the entire video concept. She wanted the video to take place on Mars and she wanted to go with the red cat suit look. The final choices were between a red or a black cat suit and Britney preferred the red one. The video premiered on MTV’s making the video on the 10th April 2000. ‘I want to be in a red jumpsuit. I want to have a really cute spaceman, but there can’t be any rockets’ said Brit. Nigel Dick also commented on Britney’s choice of outfit: ‘There was another cat suit actually, which was fantastic, which I loved, and the night before, I was told that Britney hired this guy that worked with Michael Jackson and so we’re going to use that cat suit. So that’s the cat suit.’ The cat suit was so tight, Britney needed to use powder to slide into the suit and also to avoid sticking to the suit (it was extremely hot and sweaty).

There was also a behind the scenes from Felicia’s perspective.

The video is one of her most iconic, however lost out to 4 Awards (she received 4 nominations) at The MTV Video Music Awards. The song also lost out to a Grammy and also to the Kid’s Choice Awards 2001 (She lost out to the Baha Men – ‘Who Let The Dogs Out’ – believe it or not!). Loosing out to all the wards created outrage – especially as she lost out to many one hit wonders.

The video was filmed on the same soundstage as Jurassic Park and Pirates of The Caribbean.

Eli Swanson who plays the astronaut, traded in his Space Suit for some scrubs. He is now a qualified surgeon… see the full article HERE.

A record of 155 radio stations added the song to their playlists in the first week of the songs release. This reflects the hype around the single.

There was a lot of rumours about breast implants when the video came out, this was later proven to be false and a case of padding in the cat suit. Britney requested the padding as she felt the tight cat suit, made her look flat. A radio station in Scranton, Pennsylvania even went as far as to create a parody of the song called, ‘Oops! They Deflated Again.’ The comedy in the track was seriously poor and failed to be funny, so instead of posting the lame attempt at humour, let’s rather look at this hilarious clip of the song with no music instead… this one is actually funny.

There were articles around the time claiming that the song was a diss to her previous girl band, ‘Innocence,’ by using the line, ‘I’m not that innocent.’ The people writing the articles clearly did not listen to the lyrics of the song and their claims made no sense whatsoever…

If you watch the scenes of Britney in white on the floor – when Britney sings, ‘I cry watching the days,’ one of the dancers messes up the dance routine (look top left)..

Everyone knows that the dialogue, ‘…but I thought the old lady dropped it into the ocean in the end,’ was a nod to Titanic, right? Max Martin confirmed that this was due to a personal inside joke they had about the box office smash.

The man talking in the song, is in fact Max Martin himself.

Britney famously performed the song at the VMA Video Music Awards in 2000, in a nude outfit that caused outrage with parents. Britney brilliantly responded with, ‘I am not the kids parents, I can’t tell them what to do. I just go up and do my thing.’

In the 2002 Austin Powers: Goldmember movie, Austin blows up a fembot Britney and references the famous song lyrics, ’Oops!… I Did It Again.’

The filming of the video can be accessed on the Greatest Hits DVD: My Prerogative. Have a look at the video comparisons here:

Let’s celebrate this milestone by watching the video, which is almost VEVO certified:

And catch up on some of her iconic performances:

Happy Birthday Oopsney!

Billboard: Britney Spears 10 Best Music Videos! @britneyspears

madonna 2

It’s just me against the music…..

Our friends over at Billboard listed 10 Best Britney Spears music videos:

Oops…she did it again and again.

Setting out to rank Britney Spears’ videos is, of course, a near impossible task.

She’s had so many that instantly come up as a must-include, both when discussing her oeuvre as well as music video categories at large. Wish to discuss best dance breaks? Must include Spears. Want to break down best school-set videos? Must include Spears. Want to discuss the best music video fashion? Must include Spears. You get the idea.

So, with the caveat that she’s had way more than 10 winners over her career, we present 10 of the best below. Note that these are solely for videos; as much as possible, we tried to leave the songs out of it, meaning that personal empowerment faves like “Stronger” just missed the cut, even though Brit’s chair dancing was something to behold. (Plus, never forget, she conducted lightning with her hand). We also have to give honorable mention props to “I Wanna Go”; the video itself may be sort of forgettable — although we’ll never complain about seeing Happy Britney — but the “Cross 2: Cross Harder” sign on a movie theater automatically earns it some LOL points.

Without further ado, Britney’s top 10:

Check out the list:

1. “Toxic”
“Toxic” expertly melded all the things people love about her into four minutes of perfection: There was the fashion (bedazzled nude body suit, stewardess outfit, wigs!), a perfectly early-aughts elaborate video concept, unexpected visuals (jumping out of the sky onto a motorcycle), and of course, some dancing to a seriously killer track (for which Spears received her sole Grammy win). Take it away, Brit:

2. “Oops!…I Did It Again”
If the turn of the century ever needs to be put in a time capsule, the video for Spears’ lead single off her sophomore album of the same name needs to be included. It’s a frothy pop fever dream, complete with a reference to Titanic, a red leather unitard, and even a jaunt to Mars. The choreography to the chorus is arguably Spears’ best-known, and there’s a level of goofy fun present throughout that helps explain the enduring appeal of Spears and her music videos.

3. “…Baby One More Time”
Britney burst onto the scene with a high school-set video that instantly made her a star. Like all her best videos, the fashion and sets are distinct high points all on their own, but taken as a whole, Spears’ first time out of the gate is a teen dream that instantly showed everyone that she was one to watch.

4. “(You Drive Me) Crazy”
Sometimes this early-days video is forgotten between “Baby…One More Time” and “Oops!,” but that would be a mistake. This is the first time Spears — donning an iconic green midriff-baring top — dances her way right into the world’s heart. Dated cameos from Melissa Joan Hart and Adrian Grenier add to the fun, with an end result more fulfilling than the delish ice cream fountain Brit shows off.

5. “Lucky”
Lucky is certainly different than many of Spears’ videos, but it’s definitely one worth re-watching. Playing herself as well as an actress, what the video lacks in dance breaks it makes up for with emotion. Just watch Spears sprinkle glitter throughout the sky and try not to cry.

6. “Womanizer”
We’ve spoken of comebacks before, and while this one certainly borrows heavily from “Toxic,” it was still a treat for fans. When you know what works, why mess with it?

7. “I’m A Slave 4 U”
Featuring Spears at her sexiest (and sweatiest), the vid for the hypnotic tune finds the singer grinding and dancing her heart out. With her enviable abs on display, Spears reminded everyone why she was considered the ultimate pop princess

8. “Me Against The Music”
At the time when the song dropped, this video — which featured a dance-off with Madonna — couldn’t be more popular. It features one of Britney’s all-time best dance breaks, and the fashion (hats! sexy menswear!) and styling keep it memorable to this day.

9. “Everytime”
The rare Britney ballad is often heartbreaking, and this one comes fully loaded with a couple shots that rank among the most memorable moments for Spears. Her running down the all-white hospital hall, as well as the ending in the bathtub, showed that even when Spears wasn’t busting a move she could still create moments worth watching.

10. “Circus”
The term comeback is thrown around often in Spears’ career, but “Circus” was certainly a later-years highlight. This polished video gave fans what they wanted to see — Brit manages to bust a few moves — while also bringing something different to the table. We won’t complain about Britney dancing her way through some kind of house party, but it’s a nice treat to see something new.

4 NEW REASONS TO LOVE BRITNEY’S #PieceOfMe SHOW EVEN MORE @britneyspears

queen 3

You want a piece of Britney?

The Las vegas blog wrote an iconic article on 4 reasons as to why you need to see Britney Spears show “Piece Of Me”.

We were already big fans of “Britney: Piece of Me,” Britney Spears’ resident Las Vegas show at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. But then she somehow went and made it even better, relaunching just in time for Valentine’s Day with all-new costumes, a handful of new songs, new sets, and even more energy than ever before. We didn’t think it was possible to find new reasons to love Britney’s show, but guess what? We did.

1. BRITNEY LOVES ROCK ‘N’ ROLL

Britney Spears may be known as a pop princess, but that doesn’t mean the former “Star Search” contestant doesn’t know how to rock. In the latest version of “Piece of Me,” Britney and her band perform a pumped-up cover of “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” (made famous by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts), during which Britney rides a giant guitar like a mechanical bull.

2. A SERIOUS CASE OF WARDROBE ENVY

Bustiers. Capes. Crop-tops. Booty shorts. Boots. Leather. Sequins. Fishnets. Sure, there’s never been a shortage of hot costumes for either Britney or her troupe of hard-bodied dancers, but a girl doesn’t need an excuse to get a few new outfits, right? And somehow, they’re even sexier than before.

3. EVEN MORE BRITNEY HITS

In addition to “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,” there’s a grip of new Britney Spears originals added to the show, including “If U Seek Amy,” “Breathe on Me” and “Touch of My Hand,” the latter of which Britney sings in the midst of sensual choreography with two shirtless male dancers. So, yeah, 3a: More beefcake.

4. DANCING … TILL THE WORLD ENDS

Britney Spears’ Las Vegas show has always been all about the dancing, both on stage and in the aisles. But more than ever before, “Piece of Me” is all about mixing Britney’s high-energy pop and dance hits with jaw-dropping graphics to create an atmosphere that’s almost more nightclub than concert. And the addition of a sick dance medley to three Missy Elliott songs ensures you’ll get your freak on.

We could not agree more with this reasons. We are SO proud of you Britney!!
