Perhaps Spears’ most honest and vulnerable track ever, “Everytime” was first seen as a response to ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River” video, where a Britney look-a-like cheats on him. However, the video was something completely different: Spears gets in a fight with her on-camera man and drowns in a bathtub, only to be reincarnated in the end as a –gasp!—newborn baby. (But she emerges from the tub as a smiling Britney, so was it all a dream? The humanity!) We lose it when Spears sinks under water—a world without Britney is no world at all.
Writer Taffy Brodesser-Akner says that “Britney is now a feminist role model for single working mothers here and everywhere.” She also describes “Work Bitch” as a personal anthem.
Its message is that nothing comes easily, that you can’t keep your kids in private school and your community gated and your ex-husband in his nation-building ambitions without work. During one episode of The Queen Latifah Show, Queen Latifah stood up for Britney and her sons.
Actress and a host of the popular show talked about the excessive media attention that Britney and her sons were receiving in 2007.
“It was disgusting how the media used the children of Britney Spears to entertain the public in 2007.”
Britney’s personal makeup artist for the Gimme More music video (2007), Mikal Sky, talked about Britney in an interview on April.
What project/job/client are you most proud to have worked on?
One of the defining moments of my career was working with Britney. I was her personal MUA for the Gimme More music video and a couple of photo shoots. She had just shaved her head and was getting a nothing but bad press. She sabotaged the director by refusing to perform and follow the script. So, what we got was her dancing on a stripper pole with her friends. It was an honest and playful performance during a very rough time and I am proud of how gorgeous she was.
Did she just killed the “funeral version” myth? Leave your opinion.
