DISCOVER BRITNEY – SONG OF THE WEEK – SHOWDOWN – EDITION 3

Welcome back to another edition of ‘Discover Britney,’ where we highlight Britney songs that were not released as singles. This way, you can share a song a week with people that have not yet had the chance to hear flawless tracks from Britney’s albums. Spread the word!

If you are an avid Britney stan, you will know that almost every track from a Britney album (in an ideal world) should have been released as a single. So many people have been deprived of some of the most timeless tracks and we feel that they should be heard. Join BritneyGalaxy (link below) on Spotify, where we will add one track a week to our ‘Discover Britney’ playlist. Your gym playlist is set for life!

SHOWDOWN

In The Zone is arguably Britney’s best album, but then again so is Blackout. It is completely unfair to ask a Britney fan to choose a favourite between these two classic albums. When it comes to ‘In The Zone’, there is not a song on the entire album that did not deserve the single treatment. The music was way ahead of it’s time. So why, ‘Showdown’ as our first choice off the album? Well, simply because, ‘Breathe On Me,’ ‘I Got That Boom Boom’ and ‘Touch Of My Hand’ are well known already. The more we talk about it, the more we wish this was a full visual album with every song released as a single…

‘Showdown,’ is just a pure pop masterpiece. With Britney’s signature breathy vocals and an abundance of sex appeal – this song just makes you want to get down and dirty! When the album was released, the lyrics of the song did raise a few eyebrows as the press still expected a sweet and innocent teen Britney, instead they got a grown up and confident woman, that was not shy to speak her mind. Britney’s song writing skills prove yet again, that she can completely hold her own in writing pop masterpieces and as Justin Tranter recently said, she clearly does not get enough credit for it. The ‘bubble’ beat ensured that this song was completely fresh and grabs you attention at first listen. From the same team responsible for Toxic, it was inevitable that this song would be a smash hit. ‘When you come, don’t get too hot,’ we sure will try…

Best Lyrics: ‘I don’t really want to be a tease, but would you undo my zipper, please?’

Songwriters: Britney Spears, Cathy Dennis, Christian Karlsson, Pontus Winnberg, Henrick Jonback

Producers: Bloodshy and Avant
