Celebrating 17 Years Of ‘Sometimes’ – With Interesting Facts!

Today we celebrate the 17th birthday of Britney’s second single, ‘Sometimes.’

Britney started rehearsing for the music video in February 1999. However Britney injured her knee during rehearsals and was forced to start sessions of physical therapy.

A month later Britney issued a statement, ‘I want to thank my wonderful fans and all of the people who have offered their love and support during this time,’ whilst also revealing she wouldn’t be able to shoot a music video until April 1999. The music video was then directed by Nigel Dick, who also filmed Britney’s début, ‘…Baby One More Time.’ It was shot at the Paradise Cove in Malibu, California. The music video was then released on May 6, 1999 on TRL.

According to MTV, the initial concept for the video was to portray Britney on the porch of a beach front home watching a group of kids having fun, prompting flashbacks about her former boyfriend. The concept was later changed to a man and a dog walking on the beach, with Britney being the girl next door watching her love interest, played by model Chad Cole, from afar.

Paul Walker was originally cast as the love interest, but was unfortunately later changed.

If you look at the scene where the dancers create a heart shape, the camera shadow can be seen.

The BMW sign off the car was also blacked out – we can only assume for copyright purposes.

Part of the video was shot outside Britney’s beach house.

Blink 182 included comparisons to the ‘Sometimes’ music video in their single promotional video for, ‘All The Small Things,’ in 2000.

In the scene by the car one of the extras are seen scratching their crotch…

There was some controversy surrounding the writing credits to, ‘Sometimes.’ Steve Wallace, and Indiana songwriter, claimed he wrote the song in 1990, but did not copyright it until 2003, four years after Britney registered the song’s copyright. Wallace claimed that Britney confessed he wrote the song, by showing a possible email exchange in court. The email stated, ‘I now know for a fact that you wrote [‘Sometimes’]. But there’s nothing I can do about it. That’s all I can say about it.’ The email was later proved fake and the lawsuit was dismissed on October 31, 2005, when Judge John D. Tinder claimed that the Britney didn’t steal the song.

Take that Steve….

Did you know the video had 3 versions? Have a look at the differences in the video here:

Celebrate the birthday with us by watching the music video, that has over 60 million VEVO views! Not bad for a video from the 90’s!

Happy Birthday ‘Sometimes!’ What an amazing track!

5 Collaborations Radio.com @Radiodotcom Would Like To See On @britneyspears #B9

Britney Calvin

Radio.com, (Owned by CBS Radio In The U.S.: B96 Chicago, etc), has recently written an article about the top 5 collaborations they would like to see on Britney Spears’ upcoming album B9!

Here are the top 5 collaborations as quoted from Radio.com:

Future

Like many a pop star, Britney is no stranger to featuring verses from rappers on her tracks. Earlier in her career, she worked with T.I. on “Tik Tik Boom” and the Ying Yang Twins on “I Got That (Boom Boom).” Future is blowing up right now between his mixtape with Drake, his possible collaboration with Kanye West and more. Hearing him lend a verse (or two) to a Britney track would ensure immediate success.

Carly Rae Jepsen

Jepsen had one of the most lauded pop albums of 2015, but unfortunately its commercial success didn’t match its critical success. She continues to fly under a lot of people’s radars despite exhibiting a clear talent for fresh, original pop music. Jepsen has a lot more to offer than her first single “Call Me Maybe,” and hearing a collab with Britney seems like it would showcase both singers in their best light.

Enrique w/ guest verse from Pitbull

Britney has a huge fan base in South America, and she guested on the second season of Jane the Virgin, where she interacted hilariously with Jaime Camil aka Rogelio. Why not throw down a double whammy, then, by having Britney perform a fiery duet with Enrique Iglesias while Pitbull also lends a verse? If that seems like a tall order, we think it screams “number one hit” through and through.

Calvin Harris

Harris has produced big hits for Rihanna and Ellie Goulding, so why not Britney in on the fun? Although it might make more sense for him to first work with girlfriend Taylor Swift, it would be equally interesting to see what kind of sound he crafts for Britney. While Britney has produced her fair share of big pop numbers, it’d be curious to see how Harris might be the producer to help her venture into EDM territory.

Nicki Minaj

Nicki sparked the rumors that inspired this list. Having collaborated more recently with Bebe Rexha on “No Broken Hearts,” Nicki seems more interested in lending guest verses to tracks rather than working on new music for herself. Britney could take advantage of Nicki’s availability by bringing her in on a song that blows the collab she did with Iggy Azalea out of the water.

A Calvin Harris (@CalvinHarris) collaboration with Britney Spears would be out of this world! Britney would completely nail tracks like How Deep Is Your Love and Where Have U Been! So HERE for that!

In other news, Britney Spears worked with Calvin Harris protégé “BURNS” for B9 (Calvin Harris and BURNS are both on Flyeye Records). BURNS is rumored to be producing her lead Make Me (Oooh)!

The Moulin Rouge feels were strong with this one…

RIP David, you will never be forgotten.
